The Position

ViraTherapeutics is a subsidiary of the Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) group of companies: a perfect symbiosis of big pharma and a biotech start-up vibe. Located in the beautiful city of Innsbruck (Rum), Austria - a great place to live and to work - our dedicated Research team develops innovative viral-based immune-oncology treatment options.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and hands-on Postdoc in viral-based cancer therapies (f/m/d).

In this science-focused position, you will be an integral driver of a translational science hub de-convoluting early anti-cancer research concepts.

Tasks & responsibilities

* Extend existing and develop new human and murine ex vivo tissue-based assays and investigate mechanisms of actions of oncolytic viruses/immunomodulatory therapeutics using life cell imaging, histology, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization
* Analyze tissue specimens using digital pathology and computer-based bioimage analysis
* Self-motivated knowledge management in the field (based on scientific network and deep literature oversight) to propose and implement innovative methods and evaluation concepts
* Interact and communicate within a highly dynamic external research network including partners from academia, industry, and the local clinical surgery departments (including presentations of the project work at scientific conferences)

Requirements

* PhD, PharmD, or MD/PhD in Immunology, Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine, Virology, Pathology, or a related field with at least 4 years of experience
* Hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge in basic and advanced tissue-based techniques such as routine histology, immunohistochemistry (IHC)/immunofluorescence (IF) (multiplexing), microscopy is a must
* Experience in Digital Pathology and/or bioimage processing is a strong asset
* Sound knowledge of cancer immunology, cancer immunotherapy and ex vivo assays is preferred
* Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and clear communication skills are essential
* Engage in a multi-disciplinary, lively, and flexible team
* Evidence of scientific rigor as documented by first author peer-reviewed publications
* Fluency in English, both spoken and written; German language skills would be highly appreciated (otherwise willingness to learn German)

We offer an attractive salary and benefits package, flexible working times, and great team spirit. The remuneration for this position starts at EUR 68,000.00 gross per year (full-time), plus allowances and attractive social benefits (e.g. public transport ticket, meal allowance, team events, health and sports offers). The actual base salary will be in line with your qualification, experience, and individual competencies
